Time For Finals

Well it's that time of year again when college students spend many hours studying for those dreaded finals. I too am stuck with them this year and have a lot of stuff I need to do for them. Fortunately I have something that is going to help me after my studying and stressing. SWTOR is going to be starting early access on the 13th of Dec. That will defiantly help with my sanity but not with my time.

On a different note I am going to be studying for the LSAT and GMAT, even though I have been studying on and off I will now be doing that everyday after finals are over. Now I need to go write a script for one of those finals...

Until next time...

End of the Semester woes

Hello everyone, seeing how it is the end of the semester I figured I would update you on what is going on. I AM SUPER BUSY WITH GETTING READY FOR FINALS. And because of that I haven't had much time to really post anything on this blog. In the next couple of days however I will post a review on Star Wars: The Old Republic, now that the NDA has benn lifted I will be able to actually talk about the game(for the most part).

That being said in the next few weeks you may see some Facebook posts or tweets about how much I hate finals and think they are a waste of time. Just warning you all now.

Until next time...

Ooops it's been a month since the last post

Hey everyone...so it's been about a month! Sorry, but it's getting to be that time of the year that requires more of my time. After all I am on retail so we are starting to get busy, also it's the middle of the semester. That plays a part of my busy schedule as well.

In other news I have started studying for my LSAT and GMAT tests, even though I won't be taking them until about Febuary. I want to get a head start so I will only have to take them once. They are very long and difficult tests.

So in the realm of video games and stuff of that nature. There are two games that are coming out pretty close to each other that I want and will most likely have to wait to get. They are Skyward Sword the new Legend of Zelda game and Skyrim. Thats about 120 bucks in the same month! Not cool game developers, I want your games but I cannot afford them.

Until next time...

Busy With Life

Hey all I know its been a while since the last post but I have been a little busy with life. As many of you are probably aware, I am planning on going into law school. Since that is a priority I need to stay focused on my school work. Even though I slipped up here in the past week with doing all the assignments and all of the reading but I am determined to get back on track. This also means at least once a week posting on the blog, I figure if I make myself schedule it I will be more likely to do it.

Second thing I would like to talk about, after my neck heals I am going to be starting an intense weight training program. The goal is to put on about 25-30 lbs by this time next year. Also I am going to be increasing my speed again. The overall goal is to be physically able to play college football if I go to a Grad school that has a football team. The secondary goal of this is for my overall health...gotta watch out for Stage 1 Hypertension (already showing signs of it). I will he doing this by running for 30 mins a day, lifting weights for 2 hrs a day and doing p90x also. I am going to better budget my time between these activities and my course work...I have weekends and holidays to play video games.

But don't let that worry you too much about my nerd side, it will be fueled by podcasts and movies, also the occasional late night of gaming.... I'm in college i can do that kind of thing.

Until next time...

Dear Netfilx

As many of you probably know Netflix is now splitting into two separate entities, Netflix for streaming and Qwickster for mail DVDs. Now I don't have my own account so this really doesn't affect me too much, but I can understand the concerns. So here is my a letter that I would like to write to the CEO of Netflix.

"Dear CEO,

I am sorry but I have to say that this idea is not necessarily the best one you have had. While diversifying may be a good idea, you also have too look at what your service originally was designed to sell. It wasn't just quick access to streaming DVDs and then a separate service for mail DVDs, it was one service that people loved.

I can understand your worry about becoming like AOL or Borders, but with a unique company such as yourself don't you think your initial market segment couldn't grow if you marketed both services together? Not only will it save you money, it won't look like you are trying to split into two separate companies that would ultimately compete against each other and probably combine into a single company again.

What about the cost of reorganizing the company? Do the benefits really outweigh the costs? If so then I am sorry for this trouble, but if not then please leave this service alone. People are already upset over the price increase and now this? Does this really look like a move a strong company would make? No, it does not. If Apple were to split into a company that only sells computers and a company that only sells iPods it would appear that Apple was trying to sell off assets in order to stay afloat. What you are doing seems like this very concept.

The last thing I would like to bring up is the e-mail that Netflix sent out. First off all I know that you Mr. CEO did not actually send out this E-mail, it was probably a secretary or and aid of yours. Secondly, do you really think a single E-mail will solve the problem of communication? No, it would be a better idea to set up a forum and get customer feedback and then use that data to inform your decisions. Let the customer perform the SWOT analysis and crowd source the issue rather than stay stagnant and use traditional methods of diversifying. If you really want to be a leader in the business world you have too look ahead to what the Internet has to offer.

Sincerely,
Nick Picard"

After you read this "E-mail" take a second to consider the other side of this argument too. It could be very possible that Netflix is a failing company and is trying to stay afloat by selling off services. While I do not think this is the case it is always something to be mindful of in the economy that we have today.

Until next time...

Continue

So this is a continuation of my last post. I have decided that the reason for the drama is actually about two misunderstandings. The overall concept of using a blog as a journal can be taken to a level that was unintended and cause this break down in communication.

Now since that is cleared up I  would like to offer my commentary on the fact. Starting with the reasons for the mess. First of all using a blog as a place to vent can be a good thing but you have to be careful. Often people will read them so you need to know your audience, obviously Student X failed to notice his audience, and around that particular subject one must be very careful. As to his points about the college itself, I would like to point out that it is his opinion of the school and not an indictment sent down by every guy who attends there.

As for the response to his post I would like to say that Student Y's attempt at either one) was actually offended by the post or two) just trying to troll (which I doubt is the case) may have had some valid arguments to the fact that men shouldn't be on the campus. It is after all a women's college.
Now I'm sure you have all either read or know about the blog so I wont express my thoughts on that any more. What I would like to do now is to voice my opinion about the matter.

Here it goes...

First of all I have to say that the quibbling over a blog post is not only sophomoric but it is also very unnecessary to have a decent conversation. The basic rule of thumb for the Internet is don't be a jerk or trolling if you will(actually trolling is something very different and I may cover that in a future post). How can you let yourself lose that much control over yourself and let out a barrage of response's that quickly after you have read a blog post? It makes no sense to be that petty over the matter.

Secondly I would like to mention topic of having men on campus. I believe that there may be a double standard that is populated by the students. I fell that the administration has enough maturity to handle themselves at a much higher expectations. This double standard I speak of is the idea that men shouldn't be allowed on campus. So do you mean all of the male professors too? What about the security guards? Or how about you get rid of the Graduate program as well! See what I mean? If the student body wants to go around and say that men shouldn't be on campus because it's an all women's college then they can't just look at the idea of students being men...and to that effect just undergraduate men.

And for the traditions I personally wouldn't have gone to them anyway. I don't like to support hazing, which it is, and I for one am glad that I didn't have to go. But for orientation I did have to go to the majority of the activities which was fine until I had an awkward experience at an improve event where they portrayed all men as rapists. That brings me to another point and this may offend people.

FOR A SCHOOL THAT PRIDES ITSELF ON EQUALITY THERE IS AN AWFUL LOT OF DISCRIMINATION GOING ON...just saying.

Now don't get me wrong I loved Sage, I miss my friends there but I did have some issues there. But I didn't go around and post them on the Internet for everyone to see. So that's one strike against the MAAP who wrote the posts. It wasn't all his fault though, because the person who responded should of had the common sense enough to just go ask him to take them down. People really need to learn how to talk to each other like adults.

And that is all I will ever say on the matter...unless of course you want to talk civilly about it.

Until next time...

College

So I hear that there has been some controversy at Russell Sage College over some blogs that students have posted and I am here to shed some light on the situation. We shall be looking at this incident as if we were studying human relations in a sociology class(which means I'm going to be making stuff up). As we dive deeper into this study remember to keep an open mind and try not to judge.

So starting with the two students; let's call them Student X and Student Y. If you look at their actions you will see the basic nature of the human condition. Now let's begin, Student X posted a blog post, the subject I'm not sure of because the post was taken down. I'll assume it was that there wasn't enough ice cream, and Student Y who didn't like student x wrote a blog as a rebuttal to student x's blog. Since that was also taken down I will assume that it too is about ice cream. From my observations this may simply seem like a matter of more or less ice cream but NO that is not the case. In fact it is about more than that, there is an underlying cause which I will now tell to.

You might be asking yourself "Self, how does Nick know all of this information he is about to tell me?" While that is a valid question you will not get my answer in this post but in the next post...as I have class.

Until next time...

Last one for the night

So I have decided that I no longer like rain, for a few reasons.

Reason 1) Rain is wet...this is common knowledge but it's still a reason to hate rain. I do not like to get wet and have to then go to class.

Reason 2) Rain can either make it very humid or cold out...I don't like weather that can't make its mind up about what it does.

Reason 3) It's very sneaky, it can be really sunny one minute and the next it's a down pour. Not cool rain, not cool.

And finally Reason 4) It's been raining for like two weeks now...can we please change the weather?

Now to leave you with a line of reason that, based solely on reason, is completely true according to Aristotle

"Everything that burns is made of wood"
"Witches burn"
"THEREFORE, witches are made of wood."

Try and disprove my logic!!!!

I don't wanna do a stupid PowerPoint...

Anyone else think that PowerPoint presentations are pointless? I mean what purpose do they serve in a persons education...it's like an easier and less creative version of the diorama (which I still love btw). If we actually would use them correctly I think it is a valuable tool but when you get stuck with people who have no idea what to do it can get frustrating.

Now I will admit that I am not great at making PowerPoint presentations...actually I think my are pretty boring but that's because I think that you, the speaker, should be the focus of the speech or presentation. This however, is not always the case.

I do not like it when people read from the slides and don't really know the information. The problem is that everyone has done this at one point or another because we get stuck doing a PowerPoint of a topic we have either no interest in or a topic we know NOTHING about...this annoys me on so many different levels. I will admit that it has gotten better in college but being forced to do them still sucks.

Anyway that's one of my rants about the education system that we have...no real solution though so I guess it's me just complaining.

I really don't want to do that group project...>.<

Back To School

So if you couldn't tell I haven't really been posting anything for a while. I would like to assume that it's because I went back to school, but I think the real reason was that I didn't have anything to write about.

So I guess the real question is what should I write about? Do I just randomly talk about nothing, or do I try and tackle the most difficult problems? To be perfectly honest I don't think I know the answer...so we shall see what happens.

Burnt Fingers and Star Wars Marathon

So yesterday I burnt three of my fingers trying to empty out my tea kettle...yeah real cool right? So that hurt a lot, but what can you do. So I have had to spend the past two days with burn cream/antibiotic ointment on my fingers and its really annoying. At least at night I get to wear gauze around them. And on top of that I haven't been feeling well these past two days.

So naturally I did what I always do when I am feeling sick. I watch Star Wars and as of right now I am on episode IV.

Just an update on my days.

Until next time...

Short Summer Break

So if you couldn't tell I took a short summer break from blogging. The reason was that there was a lot going on; between work, rearranging rooms and getting ready for classes I found myself strapped for time. But as of right now I am going to get back into the swing of things.

I have finally made up my mind as to what I want to do with my life. I am going to apply to law school for corporate law, and I will probably perform on the side. I feel very comfortable with this choice and with the idea of possibly going into the JAG corps afterwards. It gives me that sense of making a difference that I have been looking for.

In other news Katie is an RA this year at Syracuse University. I am very excited for her about this but tonight we ran into the first problem that I knew was going to happen. Just a few minutes ago we were talking on Skype when there was a knock on the door and I heard someone enter. Next thing I know she closes her computer and the call ends. I texed her to see what was up and I got the response "ra stuff". I know that this is going to happen so I am not too upset by it, I just realize that some nights our conversations will be cut short because of these types of things. Oh well, life still goes on I guess.

Also I am now on google + under the name Nick Picard...simple I know follow me or add me to your circles if you would like.

Until next time...

The Raid and family

So on Saturday I watched the world premier of The Raid. It was a documentary on the social aspects of raiding in World of Warcraft. Here are my thoughts on it.

I thought that it was very I informative, but it was geared towards people who have never played WoW. What they talked about was how people who raid are actually gathering just like people who gather to participate in other hobbies. They mentioned the good and bad aspects of the game such as; playing with your friends, the sense of a accomplishment you receive after defeating the last boss, even talking about the drawbacks of playing too much

What I found most interesting was that there were doctors and professors who saw the value of this type of gathering. They all said that this hobby was no different than other hobbies. What they did say was that because of the stereotypes who associate with "nerds" gamers aren't always completely comfortable with talking about the game in public. They said that it was unfortunate for the time being but they believed that eventually things like raiding will be very important to us.

If you want to watch the hour long documentary you can either watch it today on gamebreaker.tv or wait for it to come to iTunes.

Also this weekend I have family over, to be specific my aunt and uncle from New Hampsire. On Saturday when they came we just hung around the house and watched tv and talked. Yesterday we went to the Civil War Museum at Gettysburg. That was the first time I had ever been in there, I had been to Gettysburg and around the battlefield before but never I to the museum. I found it to be really enjoyable. I will be posting pictures that I took yesterday on Facebook.

Until next time...

So that didn't work

About posting everyday? Yeah didn't work out so well; I guess I'll just post when I have something to post about or I have a topic I would like to discuss. Like today, for example, I have something I would like to talk about.

It's a documentary called The Raid or maybe it's just called Raid I don't really know. From my understanding it's about a WoW raid, and that's all I really know about it. What I do know however, is that you can watch it tonight at 6 PM PST at mmo-champion.com. I am going to write my thoughts about it tomorrow after I have watched it.

I also have family coming over for the weekend so I may or may not be posting about our activities as well.

Until next time...

Reading Forums and Reading E-mails

I've noticed that when I get bored I tend to read the forums I am apart of over and over again. I wait to see if there is any new post that I can comment on, or if there is a topic I want to start. I do the same thing with e-mails, I check them over and over again. This can get pretty repetitive.

Usually what happens after this is I write a blog post or re-read some of my comics. This is a product of the former, as you could probably tell. So I apologize for the lack of information here, I am trying to get into the habit of doing this everyday. Which is all well and good, but we'll see what happens when I go back to college.

I figure that if I just talk eventually I'll have something crazy to talk about. Also if anyone has a topic you would like me to discuss just let me know by emailing me at npicar44@gmail.com or leave me a facebook comment.

Until next time...

New Month Means New Stuff

Happy August 1st everyone! You know what that means? Everyone is getting ready to head back to college and school. I am looking forward to that time when I can go to class everyday and have something to do. But that is not why I am here today, no I have something important to talk about.

First of all I hope everyone has been following what is going on with the new agreement in Congress about the debt situation. It appears that they finally have a decent idea on how to start to fix the deficit. Let's just hope that works because I don't want to sell all my stuff to the countries that we owe money too. The deal is looking for at least a 1 trillion dollar reduction in the deficit with a committee to find another 1.5 trillion. That would be huge, and it is going to be done through spending and tax reform and through cutting spending in the defense and non-defense budget. This is a huge step.

Secondly I am in the process of deciding what I am going to do with my life after college. Right now I have it narrowed down to two different things. Investment Banking or Business Law, either way I would be happy. Of course I am going to continue with music but it will most likely be in either a community setting or potentially in a professional sense.

Finally I have been thinking about the future and I have decided that when I get married and have kids I would like to become a coach for their team, whether it be: football, baseball, basketball or soccer. I would enjoy that a lot and I feel I would be good at it.

And with that I am done because I have to go clean the house now,

Until next time...

Watching Video Games and listening to Podcasts

Today I have been listening to some podcasts while Ben plays Super Mario 64. I find this enjoyable because I don't have to think at all. I find that even if I play a mindless game and listen to a podcast I wind up thinking about what I'm doing.

Typically on Saturdays I try not to think...I find it enjoyable not to do anything. And with that I'm done with my blog post

Oh and I pre-ordered SWTOR...yeah it's out. DO IT

Busy times ahead

So last Saturday I went to a Mets game, and I am happy to say they actually won the game. I have also decided that I would really love to live in either New York City or Boston, it doesn't matter which one I just love the city. Eventually however I would like to end up in NYC. That was my Saturday update, now on to other things.

A couple of things on my mind are my lack of work, my wanting to go back to college (summer needs to end) and my lack of patience with SWTOR. Let's start with my lack of hours at work. This week I have only been scheduled for one day, and for a five hour shift...kind of a bummer because I really like making money. It allows me to do things like buy comics, play video games and get gas. The only problem is that the area where I live has had a rough time with this economy and there are not many jobs available.

Unfortunately I am done with summer, sure I enjoy playing video games and not really having to do all that much but it's getting boring. I need to get out of the house and go do school work; after all I enjoy learning. So it is more of my wanting to have something different to do and playing video games afterwards. I mean sure I have summer courses but they are really super easy.

Finally SWTOR has moved from TBD to TBA which is a big thing because that means they have a release date and they will hopefully announce it soon. My guess is either at San Diego Comic-Con or at Pax Prime.

until next time...

Open the windows, I have an apple to throw

I know many of you enjoy using Macs over PCs, that they are ten times more superior in every possible way. I am here to tell you unfortunately that they are not always the best computer for the job. Now I am not saying that PCs are better or that Macs suck, for a while I really wanted a Mac until I changed my career field. All I am trying to do is point out the differences of both types of computers and of their companies. Choosing which one you want should be based on your personal preference. I just hate it when people try to belittle others because they say they are into music or film and don't use a Mac or are into gaming and use a Mac instead of a PC. But before that, a brief venture into why more people use Window's OS instead of Apple's OS.

When Microsoft was developing its OS so was Apple; in fact they were about a year apart. Both had a very large business decision to make. Keep the OS in the company or license the OS to other companies. Microsoft chose the latter while Apple chose the former. This propelled MS-DOS, which after the introduction of the GUI (a.k.a. Windows) it became what we know today, to hold a very large percentage of the market share. In fact it was upwards of 90% at the time, IBM released their own OS called OS/2, which it turns out, was initially built with the help of Microsoft. IBM and a few other companies held the rest of the market share. When Bill Gates left IBM because it was getting out of control with the additions he bought DOS and turned that into MS-DOS. Instead of keeping the OS to himself Bill Gates licensed his OS to other companies (such as IBM) to allow it to reach a wider market. Apple unfortunately, did not do this and was subjected to a very low market share and not a huge following. Ironically it wasn't until Apple allowed Windows to be used on their computers that it grabbed the attention of the larger public. Still Apple did not have the reach of Windows; this is the main reason why more people use Windows.

Notice how product quality had nothing to do with it? It was purely the lack of vision by the Apple Company to license its product out to a wider population. If they had done this I am positive that the computer OS market would be more 50-50 instead of 90-10 favoring Windows.

Now as to the systems themselves. Mac's are by far the best computer system for people in the creative section of the world. It is great for music production and for recording, editing videos, making movies, etc... But it is terrible for the business world, why is this? It’s primarily due to the fact that Windows has been in the hands of the public longer. Everyone pretty much knows how to write a "Word" document, make an "Excel" spreadsheet, or even make a "PowerPoint" presentation. See what’s going on? Since people have become so used to the Windows OS they have started using the program names to mean specific things. Microsoft has the hold on the business world much like Apple has a hold on the entertainment world, and nobody really cares about Linux, lol. The both are useful tools in their respected circles but neither have figured out how to really crossover yet.

As for the tech specs of the computers they are pretty much the same. Intel doesn't make processors that work better for the Mac or PC, they are the same. What it really comes down to you, as a consumer, is to know what you are getting hardware-wise and to not complain about one being better than another.

Here is my biggest issue with Macs...it's the price, why does it have to cost an arm and a leg to buy any Apple product? I know peoples response to this question, "Because Apple is a superior product of the highest quality and you get what you pay for." While that maybe the case my guess is you are actually paying mostly for the name brand. If Macs were made by Joe Schmo's Computer Co. you would be paying less. It's the same thing with very high end PC's too a lot of the times you pay for the name brand instead of the hardware. The only company I know that you get the best value for what you buy is from a company called Doghouse Systems. They are pretty expensive but the quality of the product and of the service are fantastic. It's also some of the fastest computers I have seen. Go check them out if you are looking for a new high powered computer.

Now about the virus issue, I don't know much about the source code of either Apple or Microsoft so I don't know how easy it is to crack and send viruses to either of them. I do however think that I can shed some light on the situation. This is all hypothetical and a theory only, so please no messages about Macs being impervious to viruses, because they aren't. Anything be hacked into and you know that to be true.

My Virus theory:

Let's pretend that I am a hacker, and that I want to steal people's credit card number. If I am anything like a business person, which to some extent I can imagine hackers are, then I would find the greatest population of users. After all they are in the business of stealing your stuff. Now let's say that I, Mr. Hacker, am getting ready to decide where I am going to put my virus. Now being a hacker I obviously know a lot about computers and I would be aware that the majority of the world uses a PC and some form of Windows. I also know that a majority of those people also don't know how to fully protect their computers as well, due to the ease of Windows protection and other anti-virus programs. Knowing this wouldn't it make sense to just attack Windows users? Since they take up about 90% of the market? Why waste the time and effort on Apple? It would be a total disaster if I just targeted Apple users.

Basically my theory is the law of supply and demand. You the hacker man have a demand of whatever dastardly deed you have planned and you need people for that. OK where is the supply? Windows users. I can bet if Apple had a larger market share more people would try to hack those computers as well. Just a thought to think about.

I could go on and on about the differences between the two companies. Like playing video games on a Mac kind of sucks, or trying to make a podcast on a PC while doable is tougher than making it on a Mac. All I want you to understand is that it isn't about one company being better than the other. It's about personal preference. I am a PC guy because it's what I am comfortable with. But don't let my opinions stop you from getting a Mac or a PC. I am merely stating why there are more PC users in the world.

Until next time...

Spending time Driving

I really enjoy to drive around on a warm sunny day. I crank up the tunes, usually something weird and fun. I just wish gas wasn't so high so I can just drive everywhere and not have to worry about it. I really think one of these days I am gonig to pick a direction drive untill I feel like turnnig back and then pick a different way back. In any case I like summer driving.

One of the things I enjoy doing is actually driving around and finding a new mall to look around...I know a mall but what can I say I like window shopping and malls are a great place to do it.

This is a short post but hey...I'll have a longer one tomorrow

Microsoft Word Spell-Check

So I hate spellcheck...in my last post I used the word customers and it made it costumers...fail

Management

Every company under the sun seems to be attempting to receive your business and as a consumer you sometimes feel pressured to sign up for an company credit card to receive benefits, and the countless other ways companies try to either get new costumers or to retain their existing ones. There is only one way however that really seems to work and that is meeting and exceeding your costumer's expectation of your goods and services.

In management you have to understand the fact that meeting and exceeding your costumer's expectations is very important. This could range from a number of things between trying to continually stay on top of your competitors on have the latest technology (i.e. Apple) or something as simple as listening to customer feedback. While this may all seem common sense it has only been recently that companies even cared at all what the customer wants out of their goods or services. It used to be based just on supply and demand if there was enough demand for product x then a company would produce product x. This worked for a time but eventually once there was more regulation that came from the government, more and more people became concerned with quality.

Why is quality so important to a company? Quality helps with the overall production and the fact that it is cost-effective. It cuts down on cost from a standpoint of having less damaged goods going out, which in turns creates better profit. But integrating quality should stem not only to production but to the care one takes when dealing with costumers.

Things you can do to help improve in the area of customer service.

The first thing to realize that there are two types of costumers. Inside and outside costumers both need to be studied. Outside costumers are the ones actually buying your goods or services and her are a few ways to meet and exceed their expectations. You can start by using costumer surveys and actually consider implementing some good costumer ideas. Remember that not all costumers know the operation of a business and are not giving helpful advice, but most try to help. You can give special rewards to costumers for staying with a company for a long time (i.e. memberships) these are just two ideas that I could think of off the top of my head. I’m sure that there are more ways to accomplish this. The kicker is having very skilled and trained employees that can assist and aid the costumer. Let’s give an example from Old Navy. Let's say that a costumer is looking for a specific article of clothing, what if the store doesn't carry it? The costumer asks an employee for help and the employee has many different options to choose from and they start by asking if they could help the costumer check other stores for that article of clothing. They can do a merchandise locater and then call another store to ask them to search for it. If those two ways don't work they tell the costumer to check the online store and give them the specific item number to use. Now doesn't that seem really nice for the costumer? Won't they be willing to come back to the company?

The second type of costumer is the inside costumer, or the employees. They need to have their expectations meet and exceeded as well. This includes treating them like humans not just workers. Allow them to socialize but make sure that they get the work done, and so on and so on. This falls more on the manager to deal with rather than the employees themselves. It is important to focus on what is going on in the work place and see if anything is out of sync, and then it is your job to fix it. Also listen to the employees and see if they have any suggestions to make the work place better. They will have a more vested interest if they were involved in the process.

That is all I have for today class, I hope it was somewhat enlightening and not to rambling but hey they don't pay me for this.

Until next time...

Coding Websites and Skype

In a few days I am hoping to have a website up are running, it's actually a fan site for the new Star Wars MMO that is coming out. It is going to be run by Ben and I but I have some things I would like to say about coding the webpage...its a tone of work.

Even though I an using a template and I have done coding in the past I just don't remember every thing that I learned from classes. It's just time consuming and a lot of trial and error. Now I know that is part of using HTML but I really enjoy doing it. The main thing I am worknig through right now is changing the pictures from the templete to pictures that I want. It isn't that hard really, all I need to do is keep the same pixel dimestions that are set in the code and replace the image only. That seems to be working for the moment but I hope that it wont mess things up.

So, Skype...it kind of sucks, I have always thought that it was jankey but that's beside the point. I can't stand the fact that during a conversation it will start freaking out even if the internet connection works great. But there really isn't anything that can be done about it, I know that VoIP (voice over interenet protocol) isn't the most reliable at this point in time, but I do think that it works better than phones.
The reason I bring this up is because I have been noticing this a lot recently while talking to Katie. We can be talking and then have no idea what each other is saying and it usually due to Skype lagging. Oh well, what are you going to do about that?

Things between Katie and I are going well, it can get tough at times not being able to see each other but I feel that we can get past that. She on the other hand has a hard time with the distance but it's ok that she feels that way. In any case that's all I'm going to say on the matter for now.

Until next time

SWTOR and Bussiness Classes

As of right now I am sitting in my classroom of my Management course waiting for the professor to come in and teach. On the subject of summer courses, I must say that I am enjoying them very much. It's helping me focus on the courses and the material. It is much more condusive to learning, that's probabbly why a full time student is required at least 12 credits per semester. I'm pretty sure that other than the courses that have involved singing and acting this is the best I have done in my college career. But as I prepare myself for the future with the knowledge that I am gaining my mind is turned to a very old and dear friend of mine. That friend is Star Wars.

I, of course, am referring to the new MMO that will be coming out in the second half of 2011. The game is being developed by BioWare, the same company who made Mass Effect, and promises to be a competitor to World of Warcraft. From what I have seen of the game from E3 and footage on the website, the game looks like it's in the final stages of development and polishing. A release date will hopefully be announced soon, but there is no indication of a time frame.

If you have read my early post about my complaint with MMOs this game seems to address many of those issues.

1. It has been stated that at the launch of the game there will be no addons or macros on the game. This deals with two problems I have had with other MMOs, it prevents forces players to actualy pay attention to what the game has to deliver via game mechanics and other encounters. It also creates a game where people can't judge your skill based on a number that an adding generated. That being said the lack of addons could potentially leave some players with a ba taste in their mouth and they my not what to play the game.

2. The game is story based. This gives rise to a good amount of lore and involvement from the players. It helps that it is set in the Star Wars universe but it is in a time before the stories for the Orignial and Prequal trilogies. What I find exciting about this game is that the quests and gameplay are driven by the story, much like Mass Effect.

3. There is actual interaction between your character and the npc's (non-playable characters)that populate the worlds. I will have more to sat about this on a later post.

All-in-all I am very excited for this game to come out and for my summer classes to continue. Until next time...

There appears to be a slight malfunction with the main reactor.

I am not a fan of this whole growing up idea that we all have to face when we hit a certain age. I enjoyed the times in summer when I never had to worry about finding a lot of work or being counted on to help out around the house. I want to go back to the days when summer vaction was truly a vacation. But, sadly we all must face the facts that at some point we all need to grow up.

It all statred for me when I hit the age of 21 and my parents and I sat down for a descussion about the future. Needless to say the main points were that I needed a full time job over the summer, if I could find one, and that I needed to act more like an adult. Both things I'm fine with, however I would just prefer not to think about such things. I'm sure everyone would agree to this simple fact, we all want to be kids again. Now I'm not saying that I am a full adult yet, quite the contrary I realize that I have a lot of learning still to do. All I am trying to do is make sense of it all.

As of right now I'm sitting in my basement of a new house that we just moved into (this is part of the reason for this thinknig), in the summer of my soon to bew senior year of college. The heavy fact that in about a year and a half I will be graduating college and potentoally heading out on my own. This srange feeling of slight dread is only accented by my wanting to just life. I want to fast-forward my life to the point where I already have a job and I have a family.

In any case I guess the point I am trying to make is that growing up sucks a lot but we all need to do it and we just have to live with that fact.

Of course in writting this at 1 am in the morning I realize that there is probabally some gramattical errors and unfinished ideas but I am going to leave it that way, for two reasons: first of all I am too tired to care really and secondly the mode of thinking that is occuring is the message that I'm trying to get across. I hope you will bear with it.

Moving: Take 2

So it's the day after we have moved and there are a few things that I would like to say.

First...moving sucks even when it's like a block away packing everything up and moving it is terrible. The second thing is that there is no cable, not cool. Finally my room is an unfinished basement...so yeah.

On this subject I would like to point out that I enjoy having my own room. It's going to be nice however until we actually build the rooms I'm in an unfinished basement. But as that gets under way I'll keep everyone posted. For now I'm going to be playing a lot of xbox and working.

Moving: Take 1

Today begins the weekend long journey of moving. Unfortunately I will not be able to finish this post due to that fact. So look for a longer post layer.

Things of the future

Tomorrow is the future and the now is now. I guess I wanted to start today with something witty and thoughtful...didn't seem to work. In news I gave a speech today and kinda failed at it, not really sure what happened. I was trying to be funny and it didn't go over really well. I'll just have to see what my grade is. But back to the task at hand!!!

I and my brother are trying to get things wrapped up for the podcast we want to start. I know, I know, I've been saying that we are going to start it up but now that it is getting close to summer we are actually goin to do it. There are two names that we are bouncing around but we will let everyone know when we decide on it.

Also we are going to get back into WOW. We are only going to be casual players and we aren't going to get crazy about raiding or getting all that crazy gear. It was way to much work for a video game, besides we have other games we need to play.

Another thing now that summer is close I will be doing alot of outdoor activities such as golf and football. So that is the plan for the future at this moment.

Sunny Days and Sunflowers

This past weekend was the start of a very nice stretch of warm days. So Ben and I started on our typical ventures. Going outside and playing sports, everything from football to golf. We spent our Sunday getting our garden ready. After all it is the time to plant. Ben is growing vegetables and I'm growing herbs.

We also started eating sunflower seeds. I love sunflower seeds and I enjoy eating them pretty much all summer, but how do I eat them inside? I actually discovered this from my uncle and dad. I use an empty water bottle. It's really nice because you can bring them everywhere and it's easy clean up!

Over the summer I might be updating everyone on what games Ben and I are playing (sports, vide games) and who won or how long or took us.

Update

So I am now 21, which is fun. I do however feel the same as before. I'm still working on the book, I have just been very busy. It may take awhile for me to actually finish some of it.

In other news I have been playing a lot of COD:Black Ops and Minecraft. Also Ben and I are still planing on recording the podcast...we just don't know when we are going to do that. But sometime soon.

Just a quick update, thought everyone would like to know what was going on.

New Direction

OK, so not only am I going to ask you all to keep in mind that the process of writing is continually in motion, so are my idea's for this book. I will keep parts of the self help idea but the overall book is going to be a collection of essays and studies about topic and K fields that have never existed. In fact they will all be fake. What will not be fake is my commentary on each essay. Where the self help idea comes into play will be in various essays and mostly likely a section of the book. I will separate the essays into groupings and the only through line will be my commentary, all from the same view point. What that view point will be I'm not entirely sure yet; but do not worry I will figure it out. If anyone wants to be an exDpert in the field of anything just let me know and again I will steal your ideas and use them as my own. I'm kidding again of course.

As for the fail that was the last blog post I am sorry. I should have proof read it before I posted it. In the future I will not really post the rough cut, only the completed chapters. There will be a link to a web page or something to that effect that will make it easier to read.

ALSO +10 attack power for whoever can find and decode the hidden message.

The very very earily stage and very begginig of the intro

This is only the first two paragraphs but this is going to be the primary style of the book. Let me know what you think.

The purpose of this book

So you’ve decided to pick up my book to help yourself gain more self-awareness. Good choice because my book has been tested by two scientist’s and by my brother and they have concluded that this is the only book that works. Now you might be asking yourself “Self? How is it possible that this book is the only one that works to gain my self-awareness?” Well I already told you so pay attention next time, ok? But I guess I’ll explain myself. The reason this book works is because I get to the heart of the issues, I know what is bothering you and I know how to fix it. How do I know this? I have gained insight to my inner thoughts by writing this book and they have been translated to the pages you are about to read.

There are five major sections in the book, the three areas of your life that need help the most. They are your social self, your inner thoughts and your technological self. Let’s face it eventually the world is going to be ruled by robots so we need to know how to communicate with them. The other two sections of the book will be about learning to argue and learning to spread your knowledge to the world. I will break these sections into three parts as well…and only three because it is a good number and I don’t want to give you all the answers anyway, part of this book will teach you how to learn outside of this book. I live by the old adage “Give a man a fish feed him for a day, teach a man how not to be lazy and go out and do his work and feed him for a lifetime.”, or something to that effect.

Starting to write

I'm thinking about starting to write a book of sorts. I have been listening to a few comedic writers and I want to give it a try. It's going to very basic to start and depending on the popularity of it, I will write more. Please give me your feedback, cause I really want to know if people are interested.

In any case it's going to be a form of a self help book, but it's going to be advice that would never never work. I hope you'll enjoy it. Also if anyone wants to either wrote a chapter or give me ideas on areas you need help with I'll gladly take them and call them my own material. No I'm kidding of course. You will be recognized.

New Website/ Update

So I am in a computer science class this semester and we are working on creating a website So once that is up and running and me and my brother start to make our podcast I'll let everyone know.

Also I have a Minecraft server, it runs off of my laptop but if anyone would like to join just ask me for the IP and I will try to keep it running as long as possible. Depending on how popular the podcast is and if people are willing to help out, I might get a dedicated server.

In any case we are getting really close to getting the podcast going and I am hopefully going to get a Youtube channel up and running, but I'll let you all know about that.

Big Idea

So this past holiday season my brother got Epic Mickey. It's a very fun game and he beat it in a few days...although he kept dieing at the end over and over again. But now on to bigger things

We decided to start a podcast, a video game podcast to be exact and I am going to use this blog as a sort of show notes and stuff of that nature. The basic idea of the podcast is to talk about video games and kind of review them. What we are looking forward too and some news and stuff.

Hopefully it will go well lol
